Riding
 Enjoy the crisp mountain air and spectacular scenery of Asheville from the back of a horse. The beautiful Biltmore Estate offers five different 10-30 mile loops with a total of 80 miles of estate trails. Bring your own horse and explore these same paths that were once used by the Vanderbilts and their guests around the turn of the century. These trails are wide open, well marked and run through pristine forests, green pastures, and along the banks of the French Broad River. Several of these trails are suitable for carriages or provide optional jumps. Guided trail rides using Biltmore horses are available.
Family owned Sandy Bottom Trail rides is “Asheville’s premier horseback riding destination” and offers a great variety of horses and rides to suit everyone’s size and riding ability. Horse drawn wagon and buggy rides are also available. All ages can ride and there are no weight limits. Their trails pass through scenic mountain meadows, wooded areas and high country. There is also a historic gem mine in their property that is accessible by horseback or wagon. You will even have the opportunity to dig for garnets and explore the mine. This secluded ranch has been in the family for three generations, and you are bound to be greeted by old fashioned down-home friendliness.
Homestead Farm is located 20 minutes south of Asheville. They offer full board, lessons and training. Lessons are offered 7 days a week and range from group to private lessons. They have a large outdoor lighted ring with several jumps and a smaller ring for lunging and riding as well as two large fenced in pastures for turnout. They also sell and breed horses.
