Trek the length of the Appalachian Scenic Trail, which traces the ridges of Great Smoky Mountains, take in the lofty panoramas of Craggy Gardens, at 5,000 feet above sea level, or Black Balsam Knob, which scrapes the sky at over 6,000 feet, and offers an almost completely clear view from the ridge.
Or on a hot summer day, wade through some of the cool pools in the grassy plains of the Graveyard Fields Trail, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. For only the most seasoned of hikers,
take on Crabtree Falls Trail, also just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, a tough 2 mile hike that will take you to the secluded, but stunning Crabtree
Falls themselves. Asheville also hosts the famous Biltmore Trail, built at the same time as the estate on property owned by the Vanderbilt family, which remains meticulously maintained, and open to tourism even today. |
